2004: Williams contributed as much as any Broncos defensive rookie in recent history in 16 games (14 starts) as the team’s starting weak side linebacker, leading Denver in tackles with 109 (79 solo) while also recording two sacks (-13 yds.), one interception (10 yds.), nine pass breakups and one forced fumble. Additionally, he made significant contributions to the Broncos’ special teams, recording eight tackles on the unit to rank fifth on the team. He was the only rookie to receive AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2004 after the league nominated him for his week 16 performance. Williams ended an outstanding regular-season with five tackles (3 solo) vs. Ind. (1/2). On Christmas at Tenn. (12/25), he intercepted a pass for the first time in his professional, collegiate and high school career, returning it 10 yards. He finished the game with a team-high seven tackles (5 solo) and three pass breakups along with two special teams tackles against the Titans in a game that won him AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Williams went above the 100-tackle mark for the season at K.C. (12/19) with nine stops (8 solo), one sack (-6 yds.) and the first forced fumble of his career. He drilled Chiefs quarterback Trent Green for a fourth-quarter sack, knocking the ball loose with his hit. For the second consecutive week vs. Mia. (12/12), the promising rookie lead the Broncos in tackles with 11 (8 solo). He enjoyed an outstanding game at S.D. (12/5), collecting a career and team-high 13 tackles (10 solo) in addition to making a tackle on special teams. Williams turned in a strong performance vs. Oak. (11/28) with seven tackles (5 solo), a pass breakup and a stop on special teams. He helped the Broncos limit Saints running back Deuce McAllister to only 42 yards rushing at N.O. (11/21) with three tackles (2 solo) in the Broncos’ win. In Denver’s game vs. Hou. (11/7), he recorded his eighth game of the season with five or more tackles as he made six stops (4 solo) and broke up a David Carr pass. He did not start against the Texans because Denver chose to open the game with three cornerbacks. Williams had a strong showing vs. Atl. (10/31) with seven tackles (4 solo), including three stops behind the line of scrimmage. He drilled Falcons quarterback Michael Vick as he released the ball on a second-quarter blitz to force an errant throw. He also chased down Vick from behind for a 5-yard loss in the first quarter. In his first-ever game on Monday Night Football at Cin. (10/25), Williams made seven tackles (4 solo), broke up a pass and totaled three tackles on special teams.
