Biography:
Professional
Hardy is coming off season-ending knee surgery and he became a free agent on March 1 when Jacksonville could not afford to re-sign the veteran linebacker. In 9 games last season, he registered 58 solo tackles and 5.5 sacks. As a pro-bowl performer in 1999 Hardy led the Jaguars with 10.5 sacks. He signed with the Cowboys this past March.

College
Winner of the Butkus Award, given annually to the best linebacker in college football. Finished his career ranking ninth on Illinois' career list with 330 tackles, fourth in sacks (18) and fourth with 38 stops behind the line. Consensus All-American and All-Big Ten first-team as a senior in 1995. Finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award. Started every game at "drop" linebacker and was second on the team with 105 tackles (74 solos), 11 sacks for minus-103 yards and 15 stops for losses of 115 yards. Forced five fumbles and defensed three passes. Tied for the team lead with three interceptions, returning them 26 yards. All-Big Ten first-team selection as a junior in 1994, with 80 tackles (50 solos), an 11-yard sack, eight stops for 34 yards in losses, one forced fumble, two interceptions and one pass defensed. Started all year at "drop" linebacker and had four games with 10 or more tackles. Started all 11 games at "drop" linebacker as a sophomore in 1993. Fourth on the team with 78 tackles (56 solo), two sacks and eight stops for 29 yards in losses.
